Sedation Dentistry

Many individuals have an extreme fear of going to the dentist, which more often than not causes them to completely avoid going to the dentist at all. Dr. Wootton practices sedation dentistry, which involves giving an oral sedative to highly sensitive patients, so they can feel relaxed, calm, and comfortable during treatments. Not seeing the dentist is one of the worst things you can do for your oral health. Therefore, we want to make sure your visit to our office is a pleasant one, so you continue to come back. Endodontics

Dr. Wootton performs root canal therapy and root canal retreatment for patients. A “root canal” is necessary when decay has spread so deep that the pulp nerve of the tooth becomes infected, causing the patient significant pain or discomfort. Dr. Wootton must remove any infected portions of the tooth and clean the area surrounding the pulp tissue. Then, a dental filling is administered and often a dental crown placed over the tooth. Tooth Extraction

The third molars, commonly known as “wisdom teeth,” often need to be extracted due to overcrowding in the mouth, susceptibility to infection, and potential damage to surrounding teeth. Dr. Wootton examines patients’ teeth, gums, and smiles to determine whether the wisdom teeth need to be removed, and also performs the oral surgery for patients. Extraction may be recommended whether the teeth have completely erupted, partially erupted, or are completed impacted. Learn More about Tooth Extraction.

Preventive Care

Good oral health begins with patient education and proper preventive care. Many individuals may think that simply brushing and flossing are enough to maintain good oral hygiene. However, this is not the case. Yes, brushing and flossing are important, but individuals must also go to the dentist regularly for a thorough exam of the teeth and gums, X-rays to detect any deeper issues, and preventive treatments, like fluoride and dental sealants. Dr. Wootton educates all of his patients on the best methods for maintaining their smiles, to keep them healthy forever.  Preventive care is a cornerstone of the general dentistry approach at our Austin practice. Periodontal Disease

Also known as gum disease, periodontal disease is an infection of the gum tissue surrounding the teeth. If gum disease is not treated, tooth loss is inevitable, which is why Dr. Wootton strongly urges patients to seek treatment right away. Dr. Wootton administers scaling and root planing, which involve a deep cleaning below the gum line to remove harmful bacteria. Other treatments, such as antibiotics and gum grafting, may also be necessary, depending on the severity of the case.
