Porcelain Veneers Placement Procedure

During your initial consultation, Dr. Wootton will carefully examine your smile and determine whether porcelain veneers are right for you. He will also inquire regarding your aesthetic goals to gain a clear understanding of what you want to achieve, before determining how to best approach your treatment. The placement of porcelain veneers is generally accomplished in two appointments, which go as follows:

  • The teeth are prepped by lightly buffing away a very small amount of the natural tooth enamel.
  • An impression is taken of the teeth and sent to a laboratory for customization of the veneers.
  • Temporary veneers are placed on the teeth for protection.
  • During your next office visit, the temporary veneers are first removed.
  • The customized veneers are positioned onto the surface of the teeth and then bonded using a special binding material.
  • Once the adhesive hardens, Dr. Wootton examines the teeth and makes any necessary adjustments.
  • Leave our office smiling proudly!

You will be given proper aftercare instructions, which include brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits, to ensure veneers last as long as possible.

Candidates for Porcelain Veneers

The best way to learn whether you are a candidate for porcelain veneers is to meet with Dr. Wootton. Porcelain veneers are a purely cosmetic treatment; therefore teeth should already be relatively healthy. Additionally, patients should know that veneers do not restore strength and functionality to the teeth like dental crowns do. The ideal candidate is typically someone who wishes to improve the appearance of visible front teeth that are:

  • Cracked, chipped, worn, or broken
  • Severely discolored and resistant to teeth whitening treatments
  • Uneven or misshapen
  • Slightly misaligned
  • Too large or too small
  • Widely spaced or overcrowded

Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

Besides looking fantastic, there are many additional benefits of porcelain veneers, including:

  • Customization – veneers are custom crafted to fit your unique smile.
  • Strong and durable – no need to skip the foods you love.
  • Instant results – leave our office with a gorgeous, flawless smile.
  • Long lasting – veneers can last as long as 15 years with proper maintenance.
  • Enhance confidence – a beautiful smile can make you feel phenomenal.
  • No recovery time – carry on eating and with normal activity after the procedure.
  • Correct various flaws – veneers are recommended for many cosmetic cases.
  • Stain-resistant – veneers will remain beautiful over time and won’t stain.

Risks or Side Effects of Porcelain Veneers

There are no serious risks or side effects associated with porcelain veneers. However, patients may notice that the teeth are slightly sensitive immediately following the procedure. It is important for patients to know that the treatment is irreversible, and that veneers may need to be replaced at some point in the future. Dr. Wootton can answer any questions you have, and will make sure you are well-informed regarding treatment before commencing.
